Lunch Information
This school year, Novak Academy will be piloting a new lunch system that allows students to order their lunch for the school day online. Students will have the opportunity to order daily or for the week. Food must be ordered by 9:45 AM each day. The link to order school lunches is on the Novak Website and included in the PDF attached. Please review the PDF for additional information on ordering a school lunch.
Parking:
If a student plans to drive to school and will be parking with us, they should be parking in lot B7. Students that are dropped off should also be dropped off in this lot.
Dress Code
Students’ dress will conform to the following:
Students will wear shoes.
Students’ clothing will cover all undergarments, bare midriffs, and backs. Tops must have two (2) straps (i.e., no tube tops or halters, etc.) We require modest necklines. Shorts and skirts must extend beyond fingertip length.
On sports game days, sports uniforms will be covered if they do not conform to the criteria listed above.
Students will wear their pants at their waist (no “sagging”).
Garments or jewelry depicting alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs will not be worn at school. Garments or jewelry with messages or symbols that include obscenity, derogatory language, sexual innuendo, gang affiliation, or occult reference will not be worn at school.
Students who are improperly dressed will be given a change of clothing, if available, or guardians will be asked to bring a change of clothing to Novak Academy. Repeated violations of the student dress code will result in further disciplinary action.
Vaping Prevention Program
All students will be participating in the Catch My Breath Vaping Prevention Program during session 1. The CUPHD's Health Education program will teach this four-part evidence-based curriculum in September during the Academic Support Class Period on Tuesdays. The program will provide youth with the skills to resist peer pressure and media influences to try e-cigarettes. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Ms. Starks (starksma@u4sd.org)
We are still having issues with students bringing vapes to school and vaping in the bathroom. Please remember students that who are caught vaping will be at risk of losing their seats here at Novak. It is all against campus policy at Parkland College and students are banned for non-compliance.
We want all students to feel safe and welcome here at Novak. We are excited about the academic progress and positive start of our students. Please remember to work on APEX this weekend if you are in a course. Reach out to the main office if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Christina Mables
Principal, Novak Academy
